Megan Morsi
Megan Morsi is a currently a Year II student in the Wayne State
University Physician Assistant Studies program, and serves as
president of the Class of 2011. She completed her Bachelor's of
Science in Biology and Women's Studies at the University of Michigan
in 2007. She has since been involved in volunteering with the
American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces, Mott Children's
Hospital and the new WSU H.E.L.P. Clinic in southwest Detroit. This
year, along with the Lara Rutan Scholarship she was awarded the
American Academy of Physician Assistants Foundation Scholarship.
Beginning June 2010, she will be working with the Paul Ambrose
Scholars Program to help promote pregnancy prevention and safe sex
to adolescent girls in Detroit. In the future she is interested in
working in Women's Health.
Emilie Prout
Emilie Prout is a 2007 graduate of Hope College in Holland,
Michigan, where she received a B.S. in biology, with minors in
biochemistry and English. Prior to attending the Physician
Assistant Studies program at Wayne State University, she worked as a
nursing assistant at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital. She enjoys
getting involved in the community and has served as a youth group
leader for STAGE Youth Ministry in Berkley, MI. Additionally, she
has worked at health fairs and volunteered at the Detroit Marathon
since starting PA school. She’s looking forward to serving the
community as a primary care PA after graduating from WSU in
May,
2011.
Ashley Smith
Ashley Smith is a 26 year old PA student originally from San Diego
California. She grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms Michigan and wanted
to be in the medical field for as long as she can remember. Her
aspiration of becoming a PA was fueled by a passion to help others.
She has volunteered in hospitals, gone on mission trips, worked in
homeless shelters and worked with special needs children. She
earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Wayne State University
in 2007. She spent her first two years of school at Grand Valley
State University and then came home to be with her family to finish
college. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority at Grand Valley
State where she also worked in the office of admissions giving tours
of the school to potential students and families. Her health care
experience began in high school when she started working at a
dermatology office. She continued go gain health care experience in
at an urban hospital in the emergency room, a nursing home and
volunteering at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She has known
since she started college that she wanted to become a physician
assistant. She hopes to someday to work in pediatrics, as she loves
working with children. She is honored to be a recipient of the Lara
Rutan Scholarship and a member of the Wayne State University
Physician Assistant Class of 2011.
Ashley Wise
Ashley Wise is currently a Year II student in the Wayne State
University Physician Assistant Studies Program, serving as co-vice
president for the class of 2011. She graduated from Central Michigan
University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences
and Biochemistry. While at Central Michigan University, she was
involved in many groups, including the American Red Cross, Special
Olympics, and the CMU Leadership Institute where she served as a
Leadership Facilitator for multiple conferences and activities. As
part of her involvement with the Leadership Institute, she spent two
years researching and developing a module for leadership
facilitation in special needs children. Before PA school she worked
as a nursing assistant in long term care. She is originally from the
Battle Creek, MI where she frequently goes to visit friends and
family. After PA school she would like to return to southwestern
Michigan and pursue a career in Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric
Emergency Medicine.
